Wednesday Update 22.VI.16

This week we'd like to share with you the media release we put together for our upcoming exhibition, which throws some light about the stuff we are doing :)

‘Not Exactly Mine’
Paintings in Collaboration by
Raisa Raekallio and Misha del Val

Lapland-based artist couple Raisa Raekallio and Misha del Val present at galerie Pleiku in Berlin their most recent work in collaboration: a body of jointly-created paintings and a performance piece.

Despite their different cultural backgrounds -Raekallio born and raised in Lapland and graduated from Lahti Institute of Fine Arts 2002, Misha originally from Spain and graduated in Fine Arts from Basque Country University 2003- the artist couple share a similar sensitivity for art and a common love for the medium of painting, that allow their collaboration to flourish and be fruitful.

All the works in this exhibition have been created in close collaboration between the two artists, often working together on the same canvas at the same time. “We want our paintings to breath out the sense of care and connection that permeates the way we work” says Raekallio. "It's mostly lots of fun, although just like anything it can get really challenging!” adds del Val “Our collaboration is a great opportunity to learn about respect, trust and letting go of one's own tendency for control".

The cycles of the Lappish scenery and forests play an important part in the everyday life of the artists and find their way into these works. The paintings seem infused with a sense of organic, perhaps random, chaotic beauty, which adhere to a course of painting not so much directed to stimulate the rational mind, but to suggest understandings in accordance with nature's own gentle ways.

The artists return to Berlin with a Taike (Arts Promotion Centre Finland) traveling grant after their 2015 exhibition in Berlin “Tender Human Touch”.
